Survival Outing

It's that time of year again to put on one of the most popular outings all year – “ The Survival Outing (Aug. 18-20). The quick overview for the new folks: this is the outing where scouts go out by patrol and rough it survival man-style for one night, bringing only a sleeping bag, water and a first aid kit...adults will check in, but this is their night to survive on their own.

Boys will need to bring packs with gear (they won't take much on Saturday), a sack lunch, two nalgenes, they must have a tarp and a knife. Adults will eat at the troop kitchen so come prepared to help cook and clean.

***For the first time - you need to RSVP through Scoutbook!!! Please confirm ASAP. If your Scout doesn't have his own email in Scoutbook and you want him to, you must create his contact information. Bob Reynolds can provide guidance on that if you get stuck. I would like to shift away from the public facing website to this system so please log in.

The first night will be regular car camping, but Saturday morning, we'll have a half day of skills instruction lead by the Brandon Garman and his team of instructors. They will go over essential skills like fire/shelter building, primitive cooking (such as on rocks without utensils) and first aid. After lunch, we'll send each group out to find their pre-designated spot and set up camp.

The survival outing takes a few extra calories to execute and we need adult volunteers. Here's some of the things we need:

• Planning for what goes in the mystery survival box of food

• Mike Wilson will buy the stuff

• If you have a small Playmate cooler you can loan, let Mike know

• A few adults to go up early, set up road signs and pick our spot

• Adults Saturday morning to pick patrol locations
