Details

This is a one night outing. We will be going Saturday morning to Canyon Lake. From the marina parking lot, we will hike 3.5 miles to the base of Battleship Mountain. We’ll play, explore and generally frolic. We’ll end the day by having an awesome campfire.

MEET: At the church parking lot, SATURDAY MORNING at 8:00 AM, depart by 8:30 AM

BRING:

1. $5 gas money for your driver

2. Backpack, tent, sleeping bag, light jacket, a few layers of clothing, headlamp, first aid kit, Jetboil or other way to heat water for meals, hat, sunscreen, class B shirt, good hiking shoes.

3. WATER: There will be no water on the trail. Each backpacker needs to have a minimum of 4 Nalgenes worth of water. That’s a minimum of ONE GALLON. Be prepared to show the SPL you have at least a gallon of water at the parking lot. Only scouts and adults who have the minimum amount of water will be allowed on the outing.

4. Food – Bring a trail lunch (sandwich, snacks drink, etc.), backpacking meal for Saturday night dinner (I recommend Mountain House brand – don’t forget the spoon!) and a light breakfast (bagels/cream cheese, oatmeal, granola bars, apple, etc.)

Drivers: Easy winding road up through Apache Junction to Canyon Lake. Jeeps not required.

Weather: Don't know yet. Probably warm during day and nice and cool at night.

If anyone is interested, on Sunday after hiking back, head to Tortilla Flat, which is only a couple of miles up the road. If you've never been, there is a rustic restaurant that's worth checking out. The walls are filled with dollar bills from travelers from all over the world. Just sayin'.

See you there!
