About the Event
OVERVIEW
First, here is a link to the driving map that has turn-by-turn directions to the approximate area of the campsite: https://goo.gl/maps/EhfNxrQp3gzpXNBN7
The exact spot may change once we get there, but it will be around this area.
This is a car camping family campout! Nice and easy.
WHEN AND WHERE TO MEET / COMING BACK
Church parking lot. 6:00pm. Leave about 6:30pm. We will be arriving at the campsite in the dark (which is fun and adds to the adventure). We will return Sunday (usually late morning). Scouts will call to have parents meet them at the church once we’re back in cell phone range.
WHAT TO BRING
Pack for a normal car camping outing. There is a list (PDF) you can download from the Resources page on this site. To get to that page, go to the Home Page, scroll down to the What Knots section and click on the Helpful Resources button. For the cave, MAKE SURE TO BRING:
1. Headlamp
2. Light jacket (its a constant temperature in the 50s - I think)
3. Nalgenes to carry enough water for a pretty easy two-mile hike. Suggest at least 1-2 bottles.
Also, probably a good idea to bring enough toilet paper and a small shovel since there are no facilities.
SEATS
We will need enough seats for all the Scouts. This is a rough road so no small cars should attempt it!
GAS MONEY
All passengers not riding with their own parents need to have $10 gas money. Passengers are to hand the gas money to their drivers before we leave the parking lot.
FOOD
Patrols must cook Saturday breakfast.
Everyone provides own lunch.
Saturday potluck.
Troop cooks main course and salad for all.
Nick will assign each patrol a side or desert based on our discussion at PLC.
All patrols must cook enough for whole group.
Sunday continental.
$10 contribution for food.
$10 if your Scout is hitching a ride.
All drivers must bring at least five gallons of water.
ACTIVITIES
Lava River tubes for younger Scouts, siblings, etc. (one-mile hike in, one-mile hike out)
Humphrey Peak for older Scouts and athletic adults
Humphrey is required for high adventurers
General exploring.
Please encourage entire families to come. Car camping gear. Outing credit. No bathroom or water on site.
Please register if you are interested and available to go. If nothing else, its a good excuse to get out of the heat before summer really hits.
