We have had a donation made to the Troop of 700 pre packaged bags of mistletoe. So... we will not need to go and harvest. We will just need to put the finishing touches on the product and get all of our affairs in order to go sell next weekend Dec. 11-12. (Probably just staple the card that explains the history of mistletoe to the bags and sort them in to bins.) We will do this (and more) on Saturday. We are still meeting at the church on Saturday Dec. 4th at 8 am, but we will not be rolling out to harvest. The new plan is to finish preparing the mistletoe for sale which will not take long, and then transition to some other activities there at the church. We will be staying at the church up until 12 noon at the latest. We are still buying pizza for everyone on Saturday. We plan to get the Sign Up genius up and running for selling shifts as soon as possible. We have been given the OK to sell at the ACE Hardware Stores in Fountain Hills, the one on Via Linda and the one on McDonald. We also need help from some of you who can bring "bins" and "storage tubs" to keep the sellable product in. Every scout who attends Saturday and Monday will get credit towards the fundraiser. Scouts will also get fundraising credits for the selling shifts they work on Dec. 11th and 12th. Since we will not need to bag mistletoe, our Dec. 6th Monday night meeting will be focused heavily on finalizing sales prep if need be. We should have the Troop trailer there on Monday (if it still has mistletoe stuff). We need to distribute tables, baskets, tablecloths and product to first shift sellers, etc. Since Saturday's mistletoe prep will be quick, Graham Twaddell has volunteered to facilitate some Outdoor Ethics Training for the Troop on this Saturday. He and his son Enler are not only members of Troop 109... but Graham is the Outdoor Ethics Committee Chair for the Grand Canyon Council. Please check out his webpage in advance of Saturday. https://www.grandcanyonbsa.org/outdoor-ethics/ Scouts and Scouters can easily do requirements 1-4 of the Outdoor Ethics Award in advance of Saturday. And then Graham can lead #5 on Saturday with a hands on demo. This will allow everyone who attends on Saturday December 4th to attain the BSA Outdoor Ethics Award. Everything is spelled out on the Grand Canyon Council Outdoor Ethics website. (Note: I had some trouble viewing the "Leave No Trace" video that is requirement #1. But this link worked for me.) https://youtu.be/jXO1uY0MvmQ We are also running a canned food drive to benefit the City of Scottsdale and their Vista Del Camino Community Center. We will have the scouts assemble the two big donation boxes Saturday morning. We want people to bring canned goods on Saturday the 4th, and to the Dec. 6th Monday meeting and also to our Dec. 13th Holiday Party. We can then get the City to pick up the food in time for their distribution in a few weeks... or drop it off ourselves. Please contact Chris Capels with any questions. Chris_Capes@yahoo.com 925-348-4081 Thank you all for your service to Troop 109. PS Our Holiday Party will be on Monday Dec. 13th at the church at 7 pm.
