About the event

Haunted Canyon in the Superstitions

MEET at the church by 7:30am, February 19. We will depart no later than 8am.

CARPOOL is recommended to limit the number of cars near the trailhead.

WHAT: We will drive about 1:45 to the Haunted Canyon Trailhead on the east side of the Superstitions. The hike is five miles out and back along a creek bed and there is opportunity to explore an old cabin which might extend the route.

Sleeping bag

Sleeping pad

Tent is optional

1.5 gallons of water (3 32 oz Nalgenes) 1 for cooking, 2 for drinking ***We are hiking along a creek so there may be water. Checking reports***

Small stove

Sack lunch

1 dehydrated dinner, 1 dehydrated breakfast

First Aid/Survival kit

WEATHER: It is about 60 during the day but around freezing at night.

I recommend most of your clothing is on your body and in layers. A synthetic t-shirt, long-sleeved layer, insulated jacket/sweatshirt and a shell/outer layer. Light weight pants for night. Two extra pair of wool socks and sturdy shoes. A cap during the day and a warm hat for the night and morning. Nothing more. You need to save your pack weight for water.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: You and your Scout must be realistic about his fitness level. This is not a difficult trail, but if he struggles on a three mile hike, this is not the time to throw a pack on and go farther.

See you soon!

Mr. Moseley
